Lie-Nielsen special event for CJWA members

As part of Lie-Nielsen’s Hand Tool event at Frank Klausz’s workshop this June, they offered a special Thursday night event for CJWA members.  Deneb Puchalski gave demos on many aspects of hand tool use for club members, and although the event was only scheduled for a couple of hours, Deneb graciously kept going for as long as people had questions.  Thanks to Lie-Nielsen for hosting this event for our club!

Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Event June 25-26 with special event for CJWA members

Lie-Nielsen will be coming to New Jersey June 25-26 to have one of their hand tool events at Frank Klausz’s shop in Pluckemin, NJ. For anyone who hasn’t been to a Lie-Nielsen hand tool event but is at all interested in hand tools, this is an event not to be missed. Besides having a chance to try out the wide variety of Lie-Nielsen tools in person, there are ongoing demonstrations that are sure to improve your skills with hand tools, whether you use Lie-Nielsen tools or not. Demonstrations will be given throughout the event by Fred West from Marcou Planes, Matt Bickford of M.S. Bickford Planes, and Chuck Bender of the Acanthus Workshop, as well as by Frank Klausz himself and members of the Lie-Nielsen staff.

In addition, there will be a special event for CJWA members only on the evening of Thursday, June 24, from 7-9 PM at Frank Klausz’s shop. Deneb Puchalski from Lie-Nielsen will be hosting a private demonstration of basics on handtools and sharpening plus answer any questions that might come up. Lie-Nielsen tools will be on sale that evening as well, and CJWA members will be offered a 10% discount for any purchases made that evening.

For those looking to buy a workbench, Lie-Nielsen also has one bench for sale from their show display. It will be $2,000.00 and can be picked up on Saturday. It is 6 ft long with a tool tray and is 35” tall.

More information on this event and directions can be found at the Lie-Nielsen website.

CJWA Finishing Seminar with Glen Huey, June 19

CJWA is very pleased and excited to announce that we have the privilege of having Glen Huey in to teach a day long class on finishing. Glen will run through the basics of easy to apply finishes that will enhance any woodworking project, and we plan on having plenty of hands on time to try out and practice the techniques that he will show us. Anyone who has seen pictures of Glen’s work already knows that this is a great opportunity to improve your finishing techniques and results, whether you are using highly figured woods or more traditional woods for your own woodworking projects.

Glen Huey is a Senior Editor of Popular Woodworking Magazine, a long-time professional woodworker, author, DVD host and woodworking teacher. In addition to building projects for the magazine, Glen heads up all of the product testing for Popular Woodworking Magazine. Glen’s latest DVD is “Finishes That Pop with Glen D. Huey”.

The finishing workshop will be on Saturday, June 19, starting at 8:30 AM, at Clover Hill Farms, located on Hospital Rd & Rt 524 (Atlantic Ave) in Wall, NJ. Lunch will be provided. The cost of the workshop will be $25 for CJWA members. Non-members may attend for $45, which includes the prorated cost of a CJWA membership for 2010. Attendees are encouraged to bring two 12” long pieces of planed/sanded/finish-ready 4/4 wood of the species of their choice ready for finishing for the hands on sessions. Brushes and other supplies will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring your own brushes as well, if there is a particular brush that you like to use.

Space for the Glen Huey finishing workshop is very limited, so reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis. To reserve your space, mail a check payable to the Central Jersey Woodworkers Association for the appropriate amount to Doug Poray, the CJWA treasurer at:

Doug Poray
617 Bennetts Mills Road
Jackson, NJ 08527

Please note: If you signed up for the Glen Huey finishing seminar at the last meeting but did not pay for the seminar, you still need to mail a check to Doug to reserve your place. If you wait until the June CJWA meeting to pay for the seminar, you run the risk of having the seminar fill up before then.
