March Meeting

The CJWA will hold their March meeting on Wednesday, March 11 from 7:00-10:00 PM.  We will be dedicating this months meeting to club business, updates and news.  We will have a review of the Somerset Woodworking Show, held at the end of February.  Matt Greco will present the conclusion of his entertainment center build. We will also talk about group builds that have recently finished or are coming to a close, as well as upcoming group builds that will be starting in the next few months.  Finally, we’ll talk about the June member showcase, including the special project build contest, as well as ideas for this year’s summer seminar.

It’s sure to be a busy meeting with lots to talk about.  Hope to see you there!

CJWA February Highlights

The CJWA held their second meeting of the year on Wednesday, February 11^th. Member turnout was strong, with approximately 62 active members attending the event. All club officers were present, and the club welcomed 1 guest.

President, Matt Kestenbaum, called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM. Regular introductory remarks were made, including information about the use of the club library and a reminder to the membership to please wear their name badges.

In the interest of time for the feature presentation, old business was postponed until the end of the meeting. Vice President, Marc Gaertner, then introduced the featured speaker for the evening, Designer & Craftsman Glen Guarino of Guarino Furniture Designs in Cedar Grove, NJ.

Glen spent the rest of the evening discussing the design process and construction details of his unique, sculptural designs. 

In addition to our regular monthly meeting, the CJWA attended The Woodworking Show in Somerset the weekend of February 20-22.  Members spent time at the booth talking to show attendees about the club, demonstrating various woodworking projects and techniques, and running seminars on various topics.  Thanks to all those members who pitched in over the weekend for making 2015 another successful show!

      

February Meeting - Guarino Furniture Designs

The February meeting of the CJWA will feature Glen Guarino of Guarino Furniture Designs. Glen is a professional designer craftsman from Cedar Grove, NJ who has been featured in Fine Woodworking, Woodworkers Journal, NJNs State of the Arts, and many other publications.  Glen will be giving a presentation on the process of shaping and sculpting his one of a kind designs.

In addition, Matt Greco will present the thrilling conclusion of his entertainment center build. We will also have an update on group builds and our booth at the Woodworking Show in Somerset at the end of February.

Remember, we renew memberships every January, so if you weren’t able to do so last month, please bring your membership dues for the 2015 year. We look forward to seeing you there!

January Meeting: Entertainment Center Build, Member Show and Tell, and Officer Elections

With the new year comes the first meeting of 2015, which will be jam packed with presentations. Matt Greco will be giving us an update on his entertainment center. We will have an update on group builds and our booth at the Woodworking Show in Somerset in February. There will also be a member show and tell and a look back over 2014. And we will hold officer elections for 2015.

Remember, we renew memberships every January, so please bring your membership dues for the 2015 year. We look forward to seeing you there!

December meeting: Holiday Potluck Dinner

 

At the December meeting on Dec. 10 we will continue with the CJWA tradition of a Holiday Pot Luck Dinner, where there will be much conversation about woodworking and an even larger amount of food. This year’s Holiday Dinner meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. Please try to arrive by 6:30 pm, so we can get everything set up by 7:00 pm.

As we have done in the past, everyone is asked to bring a main course, a side dish or a dessert. If you bring enough food for 6 to 8 people, we should have more than enough for everyone. Family members are certainly welcome to come.

The club will provide soda, water, paper plates and plasticware. To keep the menu balanced please e-mail Marc Gaertner at marcleslieg@gmail.com to indicate what food you are bringing. If anyone wants to bring coffee in lieu of a food item let Marc know by e-mail.

Following the feast we will have a short meeting. We hope to see everyone there.
