CJWA 2011 Summer Seminar with Ernie Conover, July 15-17

CJWA is very pleased to announce that Ernie Conover will be spending a weekend with us for our summer weekend seminar from July 15-17 at Jeff Brown’s warehouse at 2211 Allenwood Road in Wall Township (Route 34 and Allenwood Road). Ernie is a world renowned woodworker, author of numerous books and magazine articles covering nearly every aspect of woodworking there is, and runs the Conover Workshops, one of the premiere woodworking schools in the country.

Unlike previous years, we are lucky to have Ernie for the entire weekend. On Friday, July 15, at 7 pm, Ernie will meet with us at our meeting site at the Old Brick Reformed Church to discuss all things woodworking and to field questions from CJWA members.

On Saturday, July 16, at 9 am - 5 pm, Ernie will discuss “Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Router Tables”. This will be a great opportunity to learn how to expand the number of ways that you can use a router table, and to learn how to build a number of jigs, fixtures, and attachments that will improve the performance of your router table. A must attend seminar for any woodworker.

On Sunday, July 17, at 9 am - 5 pm, Ernie will cover “A Woodturning Primer”. Ernie will demonstrate a number of useful turning techniques with an emphasis on turning projects useful for furniture makers. Given that Ernie has such a wealth of experience in woodturning, however, we’re sure that he can cover many other aspects of woodturning as well. As a bonus, Ernie will be turning on a Conover lathe, which he and his father designed in the 1980’s.

For paid CJWA members, the sessions are $25 for a single day, or $40 for both days.  Non-members are welcome to attend for $30 for a single day or $50 for both days.  The Friday night session is open to all paid CJWA members. If you are not a CJWA member, you may sign up for a membership on Friday. We look forward to what is sure to be a highly educational and entertaining weekend of woodworking.

June meeting: Mario Rodriguez on Working with Curved Surfaces

The June CJWA meeting will be on Wednesday, June 8 at 7 PM. We are very lucky to have Mario Rodriguez from the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop give a demonstration on adding curved elements to your furniture project. Although there is certainly more to making furniture than pushing plywood through a table saw, the techniques needed to add a curved apron to a table, coopering a door, or cutting a cabriole leg are quite different. Be sure to come hear about the many ways you can expand your designs for your projects.

We will also be giving more details on our summer weekend workshop with Ernie Conover at the June meeting. Ernie Conover will be giving a weekend seminar for us on July 15-17.  We will be updating the website with more details as they are finalized.

April meeting: Works in progress

The April CJWA meeting will be on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 PM. At the April meeting, we will be discussing works in progress. Bob Hemsen will be giving a presentation on an English Georgian hall table that he is in the middle of building.  If you have a project in the works that you would like to talk about or would like to get input from the other CJWA members, please feel free to bring it for show and tell as well. This is a great way to get over that part of your project that you’ve been stuck on.
